California Summer Camp 2022 at Redwood National Park

August 3-9, 2022

Erguvan Art & Academy was honored to join the Bay Area Cultural Centers in their invitation to Redwood National Park from August 3rd to 9th, 2022, for a retreat that combined art, nature, and community engagement. The camp brought together participants of all ages to experience a blend of physical activities, artistic workshops, and meaningful bonding moments. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Clay Houses with Mothers: In a hands-on art activity, the mothers worked with their kids to create miniature clay houses and they built pathways connecting the homes.
  • Fathers and Children Nature Exploration: Using materials collected from nature, fathers and children teamed up to build binoculars and headwear.
  • Outdoor Movie Night: Everyone gathered to enjoy an outdoor movie night under the stars.
  • Poetry Night: Volunteers from the families and erguvan members read poetry aloud, sharing words that touched the hearts of everyone present.
  • Musical Performances: With Meryem on guitar and Mercan on violin, our group held a musical session where camp participants sang along to the rhythm of various instruments. The children and Erguvan members held impromptu concerts as well!
  • Hiking with the Kids: The kids, their families, and our team embarked on a scenic hiking trip.

Members of Erguvan and the children came together to cook meals. Some of us sautéed onions while others prepared meatballs. As the camp wound down, we gathered for a Storytelling Night, sitting around a heater and sharing stories that ranged from humorous to heartfelt. This special evening allowed us to reflect on the experience and appreciate the bond that had been formed.

San Francisco & Davis Trips

After the camp, Erguvan members explored San Francisco and Davis. At UC Davis, we had the opportunity to meet with Professor Saif Islam and learn about his work. The group also attended a networking dinner in San Francisco, where we had the chance to connect with local community members.

In San Francisco, we visited several iconic locations, including Golden Gate Bridge, the Google, Facebook, and Instagram Buildings. We also explored Treasure Island, Pier 39, and Pier 30, where we had the chance to soak in the scenery and vibrant atmosphere of the city.

Our time at the California Summer Camp was an incredible experience that allowed us to connect with nature, explore art, and bond as a community. The friendships formed and the memories created during this camp will be cherished for years to come. We look forward to future collaborations, and we’re grateful to everyone who joined us for this unique and enriching experience.
