As part of Erguvan’s Auctorium project, members traveled to New York to film an episode with artist Judith Murray in her studio apartment.
About Judith Murray:
Judith Murray is a New York–based American abstract painter whose career spans more than five decades. Working primarily in oil on linen, she is known for building expressive, heavily worked surfaces from a remarkably limited palette of red, yellow, black, and white, mixing those four colors into a wide range of hues. A distinctive vertical bar along the right edge has remained a constant in her paintings since the 1970s. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including MoMA PS1 and the Whitney Museum of American Art, and she has received honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship and an American Academy of Arts and Letters award.
The shoot was led by Erguvan members Yishan, Nermin, Mercan, and Miranda, using a two-camera setup. During the visit, the team also had the opportunity to see works Murray was preparing for an upcoming exhibition before they were shown publicly.
After filming and editing, the New York gallery exhibiting Murray’s work requested permission to screen the Auctorium episode for visitors during the exhibition. Murray also personally invited the team to attend the show.
For our members, the experience offered a close look at both an artist’s working process and the production of an Auctorium episode from filming through final presentation. Thank you for this experience!
