On August 8, 2026, Erguvan Art & Academy officially opened the doors of its first permanent Art Center in Woodland, California.
For weeks leading up to the opening, Erguvan members and volunteers had been transforming the space: painting walls, building a stage, making props and signs, organizing art supplies and the library, preparing artwork, designing materials, and reaching out to the local community. Youth came together from different parts of the country to help prepare the center and bring the opening to life.
The Grand Opening invited the community to finally step inside and experience the space. Throughout the center, guests could visit different tables and stations, including ebru water marbling, live calligraphy, a collaborative mural, live portrait drawing on redbud sherbet cups, a photo booth, refreshments, and welcome and information desks. Guests could also explore the Art Center’s resources, learn about Erguvan, enjoy live music, and view student artwork, including a solo exhibition of 15 works by ArtKidsUp student Barna Zulipihaer.
One of the highlights of the day was the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Dr. Ali Karatay, Founder and CEO of Erguvan Art & Academy; Mayra Vega, Woodland Mayor Pro Tempore; Emiliano Rosas, Staffer to Senator Christopher Cabaldon; and representatives of the Woodland Chamber of Commerce joined us to mark the opening of the new center.
The day was also an opportunity for us to listen. At our information table, we introduced some of the classes, workshops, clubs, and other programs we hope to offer and collected interest from local families and community members.
The Grand Opening was only an introduction to what we hope this space will become. Over the next month, we will use the interest and feedback we received to finalize our first programs and schedules. We will be back soon with information about when classes and workshops will begin and how to register.
Thank you to everyone who visited, volunteered, contributed supplies, helped prepare the building, performed, ran a station, or simply stopped by to see what had been taking shape at 1007 North Street.
We are excited to finally be part of the Woodland community.
