A Cup of Knowledge: Coffee Painting Session

Network8’s “A Cup of Knowledge” coffee painting session was a unique event that blended art with advocacy to raise awareness about the plight of imprisoned children globally. The focus was on Turkey, where since 2016, the wrongful imprisonment of children, particularly due to fabricated terrorism charges, has affected over 200,000 people, including children. This event aimed to shed light on these issues, particularly among students at USC Upstate.

The Treedome Project and Homecoming Event

The Spring 2025 semester spotlighted the issue of imprisoned children in Turkey. In partnership with the Treedome Project, students were invited to create coffee paintings, specifically of eyes symbolizing the fading sight of imprisoned children. These paintings were displayed in a tree formation in the university library, symbolizing resilience and growth. The visual installation, along with written expressions of love, aimed to transform these eyes into symbols of hope and bring awareness to the injustices faced by children in Turkey.

Network8’s goal was to motivate individuals to engage in advocacy projects and positively impact their communities. By introducing global issues through creative outlets like art, poetry, and film, the event encouraged students to think critically and empathize with marginalized communities. The event also helped participants expand their perspectives, fostering a deeper sense of global awareness and advocacy.
