Summer 2024 Project Development Get-Together

July 15-22, 2024

Held in the summer of 2024, this get together featured a range of activities designed to inspire erguvan members about the projects they are responsible for, engage them in planning activities to think about the year ahead, and strengthen team connections through bonding activities:

Coffee Art Workshop

During this workshop, team members gathered around the table and learned how to paint with coffee from start to finish. The more experienced coffee artists within the team helped with preparing the tools and helping whomever felt stuck in any of the stages. This served as a form of art therapy as we appreciate the simple beauty of everyday materials.

Creative Writing Workshops

In addition to the coffee workshop, there was a Creative Writing Workshop led by Alex. He gave the team prompts to guide our writing within certain time frames. After each section, volunteers shared what they had come up with. Some chose humor, some were more poetic, and others found themselves pushing themselves towards territories they did not explore before. Our workshop ended with everyone setting up smart goals for themselves to encourage each other to express ourselves more with writing.

Farm Visit

We headed to a local farm in Davis filled with produce of all colors and shapes one fine morning. Every member grabbed a cardboard box and headed to the fields. This felt like a scavenger hunt, as we discovered cucumbers shaped like hearts and tomatoes that filled both palms. Eating as we collected was allowed, so by the time we got to breakfast, most of us were already full with veggies and fruits straight from the source.

UC Davis Visit

Professor Saif Islam at UC Davis led a Grant Writing Workshop for us to get a quick glimpse into how we can apply to grants to help sustain our creative initiatives.

While half of the group was in the conference room brainstorming ideas for grants and researching upcoming opportunities to apply to, the other half recorded an  in-person E-Talks episode with Raissa Rahim, ………

Blind Book Gifts

In a fun and interactive activity, participants took part in the Blind Book Gifts exchange, where they shared books based on mystery themes. This added an element of surprise, sparking curiosity and encouraging participants to explore new reading materials.

The 2024 California Erguvan Project Camp offered more than just artistic workshops; it was about building a sense of community, sharing experiences, and fostering personal growth. With the combination of learning and creative exploration, it was a memorable event that we hope to expand on in the future.
